Bundaroo House / Tziallas Omeara Architecture Studio

“The brief for this project was to design a beautiful addition to a heritage listed Bowral cottage - one which was private and allowed the existing cottage to appear unchanged from the street. The clients were passionate about restoration of the original parts of the building, and replacing the dysfunctional 1980's addition to the rear of the building.  The additions were to maximise the solar-passive performance of the house, create a large entertainers kitchen in the heart of the home, allow for a new living and dining area, provide for a new sunken media room and guest accommodation. The client was keen to explore a contemporary approach to the new work, allowing for the new addition to juxtapose with the original weatherboard cottage. Most importantly, the house had to 'work well' from an environmental performance perspective. The new additions have been detailed to eliminate thermal bridging, create a well insulated and airtight envelope and to maximise passive solar heat gain and natural cross ventilation. The house has been designed to capture the sunlight in winter, and to exclude it from heating up the spaces in summer. A geo-thermal heat recovery system heats the pool, floor slab and domestic hot water and 35kW of solar panels provide more electricity than the occupants are likely to use (feeding the surplus back into the grid). A charging station in the garage powers an electric vehicle.” Product Description. Windows and doors- ThermalHEART range. ThermalHEART™ window and door systems are thermally broken to deliver improved energy efficiency for building. The thermal break in ThermalHEART™ windows and doors is created using a polyamide strip between the aluminium exterior and interior elements. The thermal break minimises the transfer of heat and cold through the aluminium window frame, giving the thermally broken aluminium window excellent insulation properties.

Meet Ellie Martin

Big things are going to happen for this girl! Watch out for gorgeous Ellie Martin of Next LA, photographed by Jeffrey Chan in Vasquez Rocks, California. Make-up and hair done by Meghan Nguy.
“I shot this series in mid-June, north of LA at Vasquez Rocks.  It’s famous for being the location of a Star Trek TV episode back in the 60s.  Somewhat of an alien landscape.  I’ve always liked the setting, the desert colours & vegetation, plus it’s only an hour drive from LA.  I enjoy shooting in the desert because of the colours and the solitude of the place.  And why not bikinis in the desert?  It was super hot that day. I chose simple bikinis to make for a fun & playful vibe to go with Ellie’s awesome energy, plus some high tops.”

“Naughty Sunday” starring Maddy photographed by Natasha Serezhnikova

“What else is there to do on a cloudy day in the tropics with a hangover after dancing all day Saturday? We had a Sunday photo session in a green garden with some rad ladies. We grabbed some lingerie, jeans, jackets, bicycle and lots of enthusiasm about making this story happened.”

“I love shooting “girls” projects, but this one is my favorite so far.” tells Bali based photographer Natasha Serezhnikov about her great C-Heads exclusive story starring wonderful Maddy of Balistarz Agency. “We were all new to each other but felt like we were old friends. Maddy is such a natural creature that she easily got used to the role of the naughty girl. No direction was needed just pure joy of watching this girl playing her role. Look what we snapped for you!” Styling done by Marion Max with Gooseberry IntimatesThe lokal Crew and Mkhdenim and Make-up by Yeanne MUP Art.

Katie by Toni Veziris for C-Heads

The C-Heads Exclusive series of Sydney-based photographer Toni Veziris takes the viewer up close, as an observer, as if by chance, partly from the voyeuristic perspective to the subject.

After meeting at a photo shoot for the cover of Penthouse Australia, Toni and model/dancer Katie decided to further collaborate. “I liked the way she posed and was comfortable in front of the camera. This series reflects Katie in an everyday context, from waking up first thing in the morning to pottering around the house. I decided to shoot her in this setting as it provided a contrast to the formality of a photography studio. Your home is where you are most at ease and represents a sense of vulnerability, and that’s what I wanted to capture with Katie.”

History Behind Thanksgiving

The myth of the first Thanksgiving, taught to children in this country, happened a lot differently than you might think.
The story taught to children is that the pilgrims that sailed from England almost didn't survive the winter, until the neighboring Native Americans (Squanto and Wampanoag) helped them learn how to grow corn. As a celebration of surviving their first winter, the pilgrims kept tradition for feasting by hunting for foul (probably a turkey, hence their significance), striving to have the best and most luxurious bird. The Natives were alarmed by the shooting games that were played during the pre-feast (Like how today the super bowl is watched after the meal). Instead of inviting the Native Americans, as we’re often taught, Native Americans came numbered and armed to investigate the shootings. Both sides lowered their weapons peacefully, and took part in a meal, providing 5 deer to make up for the unexpected amount of guest. According to a letter Edward Winslow wrote, this meal of 1621 at Plymouth Rock was a one-time event.
Considering this feasting tradition has been taking place a century before the pilgrims even fled because of religious persecution, European Christians after service recognized Gods mercies and feasted during the harvest season.

Thanksgiving wasn't recognized as a legal National holiday until 1941.To relate this Holiday to American tradition and as a form of "being American," we have to acknowledge that Sarah Josepha Hale made it her sole mission to make thanksgiving a nationally recognized event.
Sarah wanted to bring the north and south together as one by writing governors, officials and anyone of authority to unite in a feast of thanks. Of course, the civil war was making her goal hard considering that the north didn't recognize her plea, and the south saw this “Yankee holiday” as a form of distraction from the war. George Washington inspired her to choose the last Thursday of November as the set date for the holiday because he was the first president to acknowledge a meal of thanks, and he set the date for November 26th. Choosing Thursday also fell in line after the sermon that local ministers gave. Abraham Lincoln wanted to do something to unite people because of the war and declared Thanksgiving as a day of gratitude.

Even with this day being acknowledge nationally all across America (as the New English settlers moved west with the tradition), every president after Abe had to declare the day because it was yet to be considered a national holiday. 76 years later, as an attempt to better the economy because of the great depression, Franklin Roosevelt wanted to move the date of thanksgiving to make more room for Christmas shopping. This event angered people because there was two days as thanksgiving and caused a heavier toll on America's economy; that congress had to clean up "Franksgiving" and officially declared the last Thursday of November as the holiday Thanksgiving.

This is the history behind our three day holiday, and I am thankful that Sarah worked so hard to get students everywhere 3 days off of school!
Now thanksgiving is overlooked and is mostly looked forward to doing Black Friday shopping, and getting ready for Christmas. Still, it is a warm idea that this is another holiday in which people take the time to sit down with each other after a long day of cooking and be in each others presence to be united and grateful.

An Open Letter To The Friend Who Is Always There

Thank you...
To the friend who is always there,
I recently came across the quote, "If you're alone, I'll be your shadow. If you want to cry, I'll be your shoulder. If you want a hug, I'll be your pillow. If you need to be happy. I'll be your smile... But anytime you need a friend, I'll just be me." This quote reminded me of my friend who I may not talk to everyday, but the one who I know is by my side whenever I need her. Here is what I have to say thank you for.
Thank you for bringing out the best in me.

I may not show it, but you always brighten my day. You are the reason I wake up with a smile on my face. Being around you makes me feel like I let go a sense of relief, since I know you will do anything to make me turn a frown into a smile.
Thank you for always being their to listen.
I cannot thank you enough for always being able to listen to me. Whenever I have a problem, I know you are the first one I can go to and you will always have an answer. It may be a tough problem for you to help solve, or there may be no solution but you always are there to give me the best advice whenever I need it.

Thank you for accepting me as I am.
I may not be the most easy person to get along with. Everyone has their own problems with family and friends. It is hard for me to open up and I am glad I can open to you. I make you ride the emotional rollercoaster I call my life with me and I am glad you are here to ride it with me. We may have our differences but at the end of the day I am lucky to have someone like you.
Thank you for doing life with me.
Whether it be waking up at 4:00AM to get donuts and watch the sunrise or late night drives around the lake and getting Dairy Queen. We may have some crazy ideas to what we consider fun, but our adventures never seem to fail. Others may shake their head in despite that this is nonsense but as long as we are having fun, that is all that matters.
Thank you for all the memories.

Over the past few years I have gotten to experience many different landmarks in the country with you all. From Washington D.C., to Walt Disney World we have created everlasting memories that will never be forgotten. Whether it be playing "Never Have I Ever" in the D.C. hotel room or breaking the fast pass machine and cutting the whole line during the whole Disney trip, the way we make friendships is unlike the rest of the world, but I am glad this is how we can say we did.
Thank you for being my person.
I am grateful everyday that you are in my life. We may not talk everyday but whenever we do it is like we have never stopped. I cannot even begin to describe my appreciation for having a friend like you.
Thank you for being my role models, shoulders to cry on, and best friends.

Gigi's Melania Impression: Everyone Just Chill

The American Music Awards took place a couple nights ago, and unfortunately, the big news that came out of that included Gigi Hadid's 10-second impression of to-be First Lady Melania Trump.
Hadid co-hosted the show with Jay Pharaoh, and what was meant to be a brief bit that essentially poked fun at Melania's alleged plagiarization of Michelle Obama's DNC speech turned into a trending headline and enormous social media backlash. In light of the election this year and everything else that's resulted from it, is anyone really surprised by this reaction?

It was a 10 second long impression — her tone was clearly one of mockery, but the main points of offense taken were not exactly the fixation her impression meant to have.
I guess I understand the offense taken, as someone who also has immigrant parents, like Gigi Hadid herself. But at the same time, that’s not what she was mocking, and in a way, that means she understands the struggle and can and does respect it — especially as someone who is half Palestinian.
And others pointed to the fact that Gigi was bringing down another woman, and that was "not cool." I don't know about that. In the broad scope of things, is that really what we should be focusing on?
Hadid's impression, though of course meant to be trivial and likely with no intention of reaching such a grand level, was more about Melania’s inability to come up with her own material, not so much about her ethnicity and immigration status, nor her gender.

Two main things are evident following Gigi Hadid's condemnation via social media and her subsequent apology. One, in case you hadn't already realized, free speech and backtalk are increasingly challenged day by day following this election. No one can speak freely without fear of backlash, now. Two, we have to realize how much power public figures hold, no matter how much we ridicule or trivialize them.
The extent of my knowledge of Gigi Hadid is my purely shallow girl crush on her (I mean, she’s gorgeous). Beyond that, I don’t read too much into her personality or what she does. Yet, this brief moment in the spotlight, one of many for her, honestly, has thrown her into a pit of wolves.
Does everything always have to be political? Some Twitter users posited that Hadid should've targeted Trump rather than his wife, but if she’s going to poke fun at someone, why should it have to be Trump?
I'm not a huge fan of people telling me to chill. But in this case, I think the whole nation needs to take a breath. This post-election hubbub is exactly what so many feared, and what we should be afraid of.
